Even in a moderate Muslim country like Bangladesh with a secular constitution, girls cannot ride a bike or drive a car or bus, as it’s socially unacceptable. I saw female cab and bus drivers for the first time in my life only after coming to the U.S. Most of my American friends shook their head in disbelief when I told them that I cannot ride a bike. Right now, I am taking driving lessons and learning to balance and ride a bike. I’m free to learn new skills, which I could not have done in most Muslim majority countries.
